Hello! Please join up for a very great cause... BOOKS for BALI !!!
The SMK PARIWISATA BALI GLOBAL ASHRAM is a very new and developing Trade High School in Ubud. But unfortunately, the school has yet to be recognized by the government of Indonesia and can not qualify for funding. Therefore, it completely operates on private donations. The teachers either come from the local community, and are paid very low wages, or are volunteers from abroad. The limited space for classrooms and dormitories has been provided by a local resort. The school was created by Mr. I Gusti Ngurah Sutariana, a local Balinese man, who has worked in the tourism industry for over 20 years. Schooling is not free after the 8th grade in Bali, leaving impoverished children no where to turn for Senior High School. Therefore the goals of SMK PARIWISATA are to provide education for underprivileged children from all over Bali, and to create job opportunities in the tourism industry for the students after graduation.
Last year, through the donations of many generous individuals, we were able to raise enough money for the uniforms of all 45 students! The school has almost doubled in size over the last year, with 85 students eager to learn! SMK PARIWISATA wants to grow to a capacity of 140 students. This is great news! However, additional students require additional funding. More uniforms, books, meals and dormitory supplies are desperately needed.
I am making the journey over to Bali again to volunteer at the school from April 30th through June 30th. I am very excited to return to my students and continue their English lessons.
Help me raise funds for the school and join this incredible cause!
